Alicia Patterson highlights my 2008 Tuvalu project

Back in 2008, I spent a year reporting abroad about the island nation of Tuvalu and how climate change was already changing people’s lives there. (The introduction to my book A Hot Mess draws on this experience.) The Alicia Patterson Foundation was instrumental in funding that research project, and has been highlighting notable pieces as part of a sixtieth-anniversary celebration. That includes some of my own work.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — On October 1, 1975, the British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands officially split in two, with the nine small coral atolls of the Ellice Islands reclaiming their traditional name of Tuvalu.
