Tonight was the launch for the new issue of Shift, the literary journal of Middle Tennessee State University. The magazine is available at the magazine’s website and is themed around the spooky and spectacular, including my story “The Scarecrows in the Wheatfield.” I read a few pages at the online launch this evening.
An excerpt:
A good forty years after most of its surroundings had transformed into constellations of planned and gated developments, Dunwoody Farm remained nestled against miles of deep, overgrown wheatfields on the far edge of town. Kyle Dunwooody spent every summer of his childhood there, visiting his grandparents while his father kept an annual appointment with the golf courses of the Carolina coast.
